Discover what's inside the Birthday Gift - Kidult from Plus-Plus USA, a creative building set designed for adults who love open-ended play, stress relief, and a unique hobby.
Quick answer
The Birthday Gift - Kidult from Plus-Plus USA is a straightforward, open-ended building set designed for adults who enjoy creative, screen-free hobbies. It's a single Standard option, making it an easy choice for a birthday gift that encourages relaxation and imagination.
Why a building set for adults?
Plus-Plus blocks are known for open-ended play, and this gift set is specifically marketed to the 'kidult'—an adult who still loves the joy of building. The simple, one-piece shape of Plus-Plus blocks allows for endless creations, from abstract sculptures to practical desk toys, making it a great tool for stress relief and mindfulness.
Unlike many building sets aimed at children, this one doesn't come with a specific model to build. The lack of instructions is intentional, pushing you to explore your own creativity. This can be a refreshing change for adults who want a hobby that's both engaging and unstructured.
What's inside the box?
The Birthday Gift - Kidult includes a curated selection of Plus-Plus blocks in a gift-ready package. The exact piece count and color palette are not specified by the manufacturer, which means the set is designed as a surprise gift rather than a build-to-spec kit. This aligns with the open-ended philosophy: you get a pile of pieces and a world of possibilities.
Because the set is a single Standard option, you don't have to choose between different sizes or themes. It's a one-box solution for gifting, which simplifies the decision for the buyer but limits customization for the recipient.
Trade-offs to consider
The biggest trade-off is the lack of a build guide or specific theme. If the recipient prefers following instructions to create a recognizable model, this set might feel too vague. Additionally, the piece count is not disclosed, so you can't guarantee a certain size of build. This makes it less suitable for someone who wants a guaranteed project length or complexity.
On the plus side, the absence of instructions is exactly what makes it a great stress-relief tool. There's no right or wrong way to build, which can be very freeing for adults who spend their days following rules and procedures.
How to decide if this is the right gift
- Consider the recipient's play style: If they enjoy free-form creativity, building without instructions, and using their imagination, this set is a perfect fit. If they prefer structured builds with a clear end goal, look for a themed Plus-Plus set instead.
- Assess their need for stress relief: Open-ended building is a proven method for mindfulness and relaxation. If the recipient needs a screen-free hobby to unwind, this set delivers. If they already have a similar hobby, consider whether this adds variety.
- Check the gift presentation: The set comes in a gift-ready package, saving you wrapping time. However, the piece count is not listed, so if the recipient is quantity-focused, you might want to supplement with an additional small Plus-Plus set. If the recipient is a collector or builder who tracks piece counts, consider pairing this with a Plus-Plus Open Play set for a more substantial gift.
